Zanzibar government signed an agreement with European union EU to finance research activities of solar power project , to cost a total of six billion shillings.
Speaking at signing ceremony, in Zanzibar, Head of EU Mission in Tanzania Filiberto Ceriani the five year project would enable Zanzibar to maintain alternative power sources .
EU has taken the step to help Zanzibar to deal with periodical power problems along with helping reducing problems of activities attributed by world climate change, especially to rural villages , he said
Zanzibar principal secretary in the Ministry of Water, Land, Settlement and Energy AL- Khalil Mirza said the project would render capacity building to institutes, information collection, policy and guidelines .
The Research project has already started regarding solar – wind power and the areas found , to be maintained, he said .
